Artifact One

4a Reflecting on Teaching

As an educator, I attempt to be a reflecting practioner not only throughout the year, but throughout the day. I want to gain as many skills and knowledge as I can, making adjustments as needed to instruction, curriculum, and my approach to students. I have learned that though it is difficult to be self-aware, asking myself questions about my idiosyncrasies and weeknesses will help me focus on where I can grow as an educator.

This artifact is a reflection I wrote after I finished my semster of teaching History. I had learned an abundant of information about myself, my content area, and my classroom procedures. It was a learning experience that forced me to push myself as a student and as a teacher. I was able to set new goals for myself to meet as I moved over to English and reflect on the amount of growth that I had experienced.

Artifact Two

4b Maintaining Accurate Records

This artifact is a snapshot of my gradebook. I make it a goal to keep up on grading. I want my students to be able to log onto their Infinate Campus, the database we use at Vallivue, and be able to see their progress in the class at anytime. I would like my students to be able to know what they are missing and how they can improve in the class. I keep it a priority to stay up with grading. I want the students to receive their work back in a timely manner because then the necessary changes would be relevant to apply to the next essay or assignment.

Artifact Three

4d Participating in the Professional Community

This year I have had the opportunity of working with professionals during professional developments, collaboration, grade level team meetings, staff meetings, and IEP/504 meetings. Being a part of the professional community has allowed for me to be recognized by my collegues, noted as part of a team, build my skill and knowledge base and give my knowledge to others.

This artifact is a reflection that I completed after attending an IEP meeting for a junior female. I was able to watch how a meeting runs and the goals that are created for the student. I have since been able to participate actively in several IEP and 504 meetings, giving my insight into student goals and progress.
